PITHY INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODULAR KNITTING

1. When starting a block from scratch, cast using the long tail cast-on.
2. When adding stitches to an existing block, cast on additional stitches at beginning of square by knitting the stitches on.  Cast on additional stitches at end of square using the backwards loop cast-on.
3. Create selvedge edges:

  •      Knit the first stitch of the first row of each square. (Don’t ask me why but I’m never  happy with how this stitch looks any other way).
After the first row:
  •     Knit into the back loop (KB) of the first stitch of every row
and
  •     Purl last stitch of every row.
4. Pick up new stitches from the selvedge catching entire chain.
5. Double decreases are on center four stitches.
6. Decreases are done on the right (public) side; SSK, K2Tog.
